SHS Seniors Awarded Scholarships (Day 3)

Over the next week, the Smackover School District would like to honor graduates of the class of 2012 who were awarded scholarships by highlighting five scholarship recipients a day.

Congratulations to these students!

Reese Childers will attend the University of Central Arkansas. He has been awarded a UCA Achivement Scholarship valued at $20,000, a UCA band scholarship valued at 4,000 and the Academic Challenge valued at $18,000.

Julie Conway will attend South Ark Community College. She has been awarded the Freshman Recognition scholarship with a 2-year value of $2,664. She has also received the Academic Challenge with a 2-year value of $4,500.

Tyler Cornwell will attend Southern Arkansas University. He has received a Mulerider baseball scholarship with a 4-year value of $2,000. He has also received the Academic Challenge with a 4-year value of $18,000 and the Murphy Foundation with a 4-year value of $16,000.

Antonio Davis will attend Southern Arkansas University. He has received the $500 Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Lisbon award, the Murphy Foundation with a 4-year value of $16,000 and will receive the Academic Challenge valued at $18,000.

Cordarius Enright will attend the University of Arkansas. He will receive a Razorback Bridge scholarship with a four-year value of $14,000, a SHS Educational Fund valued at $1,000, a $500 Ella Louise Sims scholarship, the Murphy Foundation with a 4-year value of $12,000 and will receive the Academic Challenge valued at $18,000.

Courtney Booth will attend Southern Arkansas University. She has been awarded a $500 SHS Coca-Cola scholarship and received the Academic Challenge with a 4-year value of $18,000.

Landon Bradley will attend University of Central Arkansas. He has been awarded the University scholarship with a 4-year value of $10,000. He has also been awarded the Sight Impaired Group Help Team scholarship valued at $1,000. He will receive the Academic Challenge with a 4-year value of $18,000 and the Murphy Foundation with a 4-year value of $12,000.

Cody Bussell will attend the University of Central Arkansas. He has been awarded the UCA Excellence scholarship with a 4-year value of $26,000.

Jesse Carter will attend Southern Arkansas University. He has been awarded an Achievement Award with a 4-year value of $8,000.

Tate Chanler will attend Arkansas State University. He has been awarded an Arkansas Promise scholarship with a 4-year value of $10,000. He has received the Academic Challenge with a 4-year value of $18,000.

SHS Seniors Awarded Scholarships

Over the next week, the Smackover School District would like to honor graduates of the class of 2012 who were awarded scholarships.

The total value of all of the scholarships awarded to the class of 2012 totals $1, 239,431.

The Buckaroo Blog will highlight five scholarship recipients a day.

Priosha Anderson will attend Southeast Arkansas College. She has been awarded the Murphy Foundation with a 4-year value of $16,000.

Deonta Baker will attend the University of Central Arkansas. He has been awarded the Academic Challenge with a 4-year value of $18,000.

Seth Barron will attend the University of Central Arkansas. He has received the Academic Challenge with a 4-year value of $18,000.

Mary Bradshaw will attend the University of Arkansas. She has been awarded the Freshman Academic scholarship valued at $1,000, a SHS Educational Fund valued at $1,000, SHS Anchor Club valued at $500, a Women of Distinction valued at $500. She will also receive the Academic Challenge with a 4-year value of $18,000. Total value: $21,000

Dylan Breshears will attend the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He has received a Warhawk Out-of-State award with a 4-year value of $31,784 and Academic Recognition Tier III award with a 4-year value of $9,600. Total value: $41,384

Announcement of Job Opportunities

When an employment opportunity becomes available in the district during the summer, the school district will continue to post notice in each of the buildings.  We will also send an email to announce the job opening.  This will give current employees the first opportunity to apply for a given job.

At the end of five business days, the announcement will be posted on the district website if the position has not been filled.

All school employees are encouraged to check their school email regularly throughout the summer to stay informed of these notices.

Summer Hours

The offices of Smackover Elementary School, Smackover High School, and Central Office will begin their summer hours today, May 21, 2012.

These offices will be open on Monday through Thursday from 7 am – 5 pm.

Today is the last official day of the 2011-2012 school year.

The faculty and staff of the Smackover School District wish to thank you for allowing us to serve your children this year.

We look forward to seeing all of our students back on August 20, 2012 for the first day of the 2012-2013 school year.

May Board Meeting

The Smackover School Board met in regular session on Monday, May 14.  Highlights from the meeting include:

  • Hiring a high school mathematics teacher
  • Approving the classified salary schedule
  • Accepting the resignation of a licensed employee

Board members were also given information about upcoming elections:

  • All board positions will be open in the upcoming election.
  • All persons interested in running for a board position may begin collecting petitions on June 10, 2012.
  • All candidates must submit petitions, affidavit of eligibility, and political practices pledge on or before noon on July 10, 2012.

Graduation Information for the Class of 2012

The Smackover School Board met in regular session on Monday night.  A discussion was held about the commencement exercises scheduled for Friday evening which conflict with the State Baseball Championship game.

The Board voted 4- 2 to do the following:

  • The high school graduation scheduled for Friday, May 18, at 8 pm in the stadium will go on as planned.
  • A second graduation ceremony will be held for any students unable to attend the Friday night graduation because of the State Baseball Championship game.  This ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 20, at 8 pm in the stadium.

All graduating seniors are invited to attend and participate in both ceremonies.
