Retirement Reception

Smackover High School faculty and staff held a retirement reception for Barbara Jean Edwards on Thursday, May 26. Congratulations to Mrs. Edwards on your retirement, and thank you for your dedication to our school! You will be missed!

On Monday, May 23, Smackover High School celebrated the end of year with an awards program honoring students who excelled in the classroom. Principal O’Guinn welcomed parents and friends to the program for the first time since 2019. Students were recognized by teachers from each department for their outstanding performance. We are so proud of all of our students and thankful for our staff for another great year in Smackover-Norphlet School District! 2021-2022 was a wonderful year but we are expecting even greater things in 2022-2023! Congratulations to Mrs. Kim Stanton on your Retirement!

Norphlet Middle School would like to congratulate Mrs. Stanton on her retirement.  

Mrs. Stanton is a veteran teacher with 32 ½ years experience in education. She is a true example of what an educator should be.  Mrs. Stanton exhibits exemplary dedication to her job as an English teacher.  She has a genuine care and concern for her students.  Mrs. Stanton takes the time to build relationships with her students and fellow co-workers that will have an effect on them for many years to come.  She provides her students with challenging and rigorous lessons to push them to learn at the highest levels.

For many years she was the student council sponsor.  In her role as student council sponsor, she was able to raise money for several local organizations, provide fun activities for students to participate in, and teach leadership skills to those students that were elected to student council.  

Mrs. Stanton was voted Norphlet Middle School’s Teacher of the Year by her fellow teachers and co-workers for the 2021-2022 school year.  

In her spare time, Mrs. Stanton enjoys reading, painting, and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Stanton will be greatly missed and difficult to replace.  We wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

Congratulations to Mr. Jerry Langston on your Retirement!

Mr. Jerry Langston began his teaching career in 1986 in Hughes High School where he taught for four years .He coached football ,basketball, health and worked in  the ALE school.  He moved back home to Strong AR where he worked in his family business running an ice store, which he eventually owned. After owning and operating an ice company for 15 years, he went back to teaching and coaching in his home town of Strong. He taught history and worked as an assistant football coach for two years, eventually becoming the head coach after three years.  He also took over the ALE program at this time.

In 2009 he was named  ALE teacher of the year, in 2011. He helped lead  Strong to its state championship in 2AA  football. Mr. Langston served as principal of Strong High School , for 4 years, while also serving on the AAPE board for 12 years.

He served as Dean of students at Washington Middle School for 1 year and four years Murmil ALE and finally spent the last three years as the assistant Principal at the NMS.

Mr. Langston brought a wealth of experience and knowledge to the administration at NMS. He always respected his principal even though he had far more experience in administration. He served with professionalism and integrity. Mr. Langston, you will be missed by staff and students alike. May God bless you in all that you do.
