SBHC Featured by KTVE

The Smackover-Norphlet School District was featured on KTVE last night about the new School Based Health Center.  The district was recently awarded a half million dollar grant over five years to fund renovations and begin the health center.

SHS Seniors Awarded Scholarship (Day Nine)

Cooper Thurmon will attend Williams Baptist College. He has been awarded a President’s Scholarship as well as a Ministerial Dependent Scholarship. He has received a $1,000 SHS Educational Fund Scholarship. He is a recipient of the Arkansas Academic Challenge. 4-year value: $37,500

Tyler Waxley will attend the University of Arkansas at Monticello. He is the recipient of a UAM Jewell Menu Scholarship. He is a recipient of the Arkansas Academic Challenge. 4-year value: $18,000

Leslie Weaver will attend the University of Central Arkansas. She can be a recipient of the Arkansas Academic Challenge. 4-year value: $14,000

Jacob Wood will attend Louisiana Tech University. He has been awarded an Outstanding Student and Bulldog Waiver scholarships. He has received a $1,000 SHS Educational Fund scholarship. 4-year value: $97,652

SHS Seniors Awarded Scholarships (Day Eight)

Chad Parker has enlisted with the United States Army where he will receive the Montgomery GI Bill totaling $61,812.

Drake Payne will attend Southern Arkansas University. He has been awarded the Patrick Smith $1,000 Book Grant.

Ashlyn Reed will attend Southern Arkansas University. She is a recipient of the Arkansas Academic Challenge. 4-year value: $14,000

Jamarkus Renix has enlisted with the United States Marines where he will receive the Montgomery GI Bill totaling $47,556.

Drew Stringer will attend Southern Arkansas University. He has been awarded a $500 SHS Coca-Cola scholarship and is a recipient of the Arkansas Academic Challenge. 4-year value: $14,500

Filing Time Nears for School Board Elections

The statewide filing period for school boards begins June 30 and ends at noon on July 7 for those who want to be candidates in their local September school board elections.

Candidates must be qualified electors living in the school board election zone from which they are running for election.

To file, hopefuls must submit petitions signed by at least 20 electors in their zones as well as a political practice pledge and an affidavit of eligibility to the county clerk.
