Smackover Preschool News

Smackover Preschool News

The Smackover Preschool building will have new air conditioning installed this summer as soon as school is out.  The preschool has been using an existing boiler system that has not been very stable but has lasted until yesterday when it took its last breath.  The main preschool building currently has no air conditioning.  However, to help remedy that situation and to help us make it the remaining nine (9) days of school we are doing the following:

  • We have installed window air conditioners in the Infant and Toddler rooms,
  • We have installed window air conditioners in two (2) of the 3 & 4-year-old classrooms,
  • Teachers have altered schedules to include outside time early in the mornings when it is cooler,
  • Teachers have altered schedules and combined classes so as to use the three (3) classrooms in the wing-annex building that does have air conditioning,
  • Teachers have kept windows closed so as not to bring in the hot, humid air from outside into the building.

With these simple additions and changes to the preschool we believe that the children and staff will be as comfortable as possible these last few days of school as we know that many parents depend on our preschool to be open.  Thank you in advance to our parents for your understanding and patience as we work through this unpredicted end of year issue.  If you have any questions regarding preschool please contact Tammy Wills, Preschool Director at 870-546-1025 or 870-546-1011.

Smackover High School All Sports Banquet

Due to different school events on Thursday, May 27 and to allow our parents to be able to attend all events, the Smackover High School All Sports Banquet times have been altered.

The athletes only meal will begin at 6 pm in the First Baptist Family Life Center and the award ceremony that is open to everyone will begin at 7pm in the sanctuary.

Thank you for your understanding as we strive to honor students on their accomplishments!

Congratulations Mrs. Corley

Mrs. Tonya Corley is currently serving as Smackover High School Library Media Specialist.  After 23.5 years experience in the education field, with 23 years dedicated to the Smackover Norphlet School District, Mrs. Corley will be retiring June 9, 2021.

Mrs. Corley began her adult employment in the business world, then after her children began school, she returned to college and earned her degree in education from Southern Arkansas University. She began her employment in Junction City for one semester before returning to Smackover, her alma mater, as an English teacher. Mrs. Corley spent eight years teaching primarily senior English  and oral communication classes, then she taught Spanish for six years with a brief hiatus as EAST lab facilitator in the middle of those six years. After receiving her master’s degree from the University of Central Arkansas, Mrs. Corley then took charge of library media services. She has held that position for eight years.

Mrs. Corley is married to Mark Corley. They are life-long Smackover residents as well as members of the Smackover High School Class of 1978.  They raised two sons, Kevin (class of 2005) and Brian (class of 2009) in the Smackover-Norphlet School District. She is the very proud grandmother of Luke and Grant. She is planning on spending some quality time with these two in her retirement.

Mrs. Corley is a member of the Smackover First Baptist Church. She is a Sunday School teacher and a member of the pastor search committee. She served as a Bible school leader and children’s choir director for many years. She enjoys camping, cooking, reading, and most of all, spending time with her family.

Thank you Mrs. Corly for your dedication to the students of Smackover High School and our district.  You will be missed!
