Tater Tots

Students in Jade Centers’ class at Smackover High School recently completed a unit on Child Development.

Due to SHS restarting the Family and Consumer Science program this year, students did not have access to the “babies” that other programs in the area have. But students still wanted the experience of putting the parenting skills they have learned during the unit to the test. The students carried their “potato babies” around for three days and documented their experience by creating a PowerPoint presentation that included pictures of all of the places their baby went. They had to include a birth certificate for their baby, name their child, and provide information on the people they allowed to babysit.

The experience was fun for students because not only did they use the parenting skills they have learned, but they also used their sewing skills to make clothes for their babies!
