Dear Smackover-Norphlet Buckaroo Community,
Spring has sprung as we say in the education business!! I’m so proud to be a part of this team, and I’m excited about what Spring Break will provide for our staff and the students!! Before we set sail on that break, I want to share a couple of updates!
I’m fired up to inform you that our school board voted unanimously to increase pay for all teachers, paraprofessionals, and classified employees at the March school board meeting. This pay increase will give our district a competitive edge in our region and will help us recruit the best and retain our all-star team! This bump in the salary schedule will make our pay for licensed teachers tied for third in our region when it comes to bachelor’s degrees and second when looking at BA+15 and master’s degree schedules. For a reference, two years ago we were ranked eighth in our region. We were also able to increase our classified staff wages by seventy five cents an hour bringing these positions to the top quartile across the region as well, as this group was also ranked mid to low in comparisons two years ago. I want to say thank you to our business office and our school board who are making decisions to help make our district a destination!
Secondly, as we begin to focus on next year we would like to establish periodic town hall meetings to discuss all the great things our staff and students are doing and also get feedback from our communities as we make long range plans for the future. These discussions will include academic plans, athletics & extra curricular opportunities, facility updates, and other information that could help move our district forward! Our first meeting will be April 8th at 6pm in the Hobgood Auditorium. More info to come in the coming weeks on our blog!
Lastly, for the past calendar year, our students, faculty, administration, and staff have performed at unprecedented levels to continue to provide a great education to all of our Buckaroos. To all of those who have gone the extra mile for our students…and for SNSD during this pandemic, we say—“Thank you!” We hope that y’all have a safe, healthy, restful Spring Break!
