End of Year Early Release Dates

Please note the following early release dates for your May calendar:

  • May 13 – Graduation (Dismissal at 12:30 pm.)
  • May 21 – Semester Tests (Dismissal at 2 pm.)
  • May 22 – Semester Tests (Dismissal at 2 pm.)
  • May 23 – Semester Tests (Dismissal at 2 pm.)
  • May 24 – Last day of school/Make-up semester tests (Dismissal at noon.)

After School Care

After school care will be available for students enrolled in the after-school care program.  There is an additional $5 charge for an early release date.

There will be no after-school care on Friday, May 24.

Preschool

  • Smackover Preschool will dismiss early only on May 13 and May 24.
  • Smackover Preschool will observe regular hours on May 21, 22, and 23.

Bass Fishing Team Continues to Excel

Ethan Warren and Robert Dixon brought home 3rd place in the last Bassmasters tournament on April 13th with 10.62 pounds winning $240 and 2 Lews reels. Ethan also won Big Bass with 4.22 pounds. He and Robert were awarded $50 Gift card and a trophy each.

Trey Darden and David Martin brought home 4th place with 10.56 pounds winning $190.

Ethan and Robert finished 2nd place overall in Angler of the year with Bassmasters, while Trey and David finished 3rd in Angler of the year with Bassmasters.

The championship will be May 4-5th.  In addition, the team will also compete in the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, one more tournament with a due date that is to be announced.

Career Opportunities at Lockheed Martin

Earlier in April, Lockheed Martin representatives provided a presentation for Smackover High School’s juniors and seniors.

Students were told about the multitude of career opportunities available at the Camden Lockheed Martin facility as well as the many benefits the corporation offers.

Careers range from entry level to salaried positions.

SPS Celebrates Arkansas Children’s Week

Smackover Preschool celebrated Arkansas Children’s Week last week.  As part of the festivities, the children paraded around the Smackover High School football field with Smackover Elementary and Smackover High School students cheering them on.  Following the parade, students went to the First Baptist Church Family Life Center for lunch.

STEM Camp for Middle School Girls

There will be a tuition-free STEM program for girls in 6th through 8th grades at SouthARK Community College this summer!

SouthARK Community College and Verizon are preparing the next generation for a future filled with
opportunities. They are offering a free program to engage middle school girls in Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Math (STEM). Through the program, girls will get hands-on, immersive learning of
design thinking, 3D printing, augmented reality and social entrepreneurship.

Program Details:

  • There is no cost for students.
  • Lunch will be provided over the summer, with transportation available upon request.
  • Participating students will receive a tablet for the duration of the program.

Logistics:

  • Dates:  July 15 – August 2
  • Time:  8 am to 5 pm
  • Duration:  The program is three weeks in the summer plus one Saturday a month through the school year.
  • Location:  SouthARK Community College
