Smackover Elementary School, Norphlet Elementary School, and Norphlet Middle School will all be celebrating Read Across America Week on February 25 – March 1. Students on these campuses may celebrate their love of reading by participating in the following dress up days.
Norphlet Middle School students who had good grades during the first semester earned a celebration day.
The Smackover-Norphlet School District will have Kindergarten Registration on Friday, March 15, 2019, from 8 am to 3 pm at Smackover Elementary School.
Parents will need to bring the following:
- Birth certificate
- Social security card
- Immunization record
- Proof of residence
If you are missing one (or more) of the documents above, you may still register your child on that day.
If you are unable to attend on March 15, you are encouraged to come by the school and register your child when you are able.

Nominations for possible placement into the Gifted and Talented Program are on-going throughout the year.
Students can be nominated by a parent, teacher, peer, community member, or themselves.
The deadline to return a nomination form for possible placement at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year is March 8, 2019. All nominations must be submitted to the GT Coordinator by that date.
Nomination forms may be turned into either elementary office or mailed to 112 East 8th Street, Smackover AR 71762.

Third through sixth grade GT students recently participated in Quiz Bowl competitions which were held at Southern Arkansas University. The junior high Quiz Bowl team participated in the AGOBA 3A Regional Quiz Bowl Tournament.
Congratulations to the 5th grade Quiz Bowl team for placing second in their competition!
A meeting will be held in the Smackover High School Library on Thursday, February 28, beginning at 6 pm to discuss the concurrent credit college program offered to upcoming Juniors.
All questions concerning a child’s involvement and the financial obligation will be covered.
Also, a video presentation will be posted on The Buckaroo Blog starting Friday, March 1, for additional explanation.

Karyn Runge, a Norphlet Elementary School 5th grader, has achieved over 100 Accelerated Reader points and celebrated by becoming “Librarian for the Day”!
She shadowed Mrs. Morgan in performing librarian duties and assisting students.
