SHS Senior Cheerleaders for 2014-2015

Tryouts for the Senior Buckaroo Cheerleaders were held this week.  Each student trying out for the squad was assigned a number.

The following will be the 2014-2015 Senior Buckaroo Cheerleaders:

All new senior high cheerleaders are to pick up a fund raising packet from the high school office on Monday, March 31st.

Camp deposits of $50 are due by April 15.

Congratulations to those student who made the cheer squad!

Junior High Cheerleading results will be posted at 8 pm on Friday, March 21st.

March School Board Meetings

The Smackover School District Board of Directors met in regular session on Monday, March 17, 2014 in Hobgood Auditorium.  Highlights from the meeting include:

  • Recognized Mrs. Judy Doherty as the Teacher of the Month.  Mrs. Doherty was described as a patients, dedicated and organized teacher who loves her students and has concern for them both academically and socially.
  • Recognized Willie Manning as the Student of the Month.  Willie was congratulated on his accomplishments at SHS and for exhibiting outstanding leadership qualities.
  • Heard a presentation from the Superintendent regarding the proposed merger proposal with the Norphlet School District.
  • Approved addendums to the elementary school handbook.
  • Accepted the resignation of one employee.

The Smackover School District met in a special called meeting on Wednesday, March 19, 2014.  Highlights from the meeting include:

  • Approved an Agreement for Voluntary Annexation of the Norphlet School District into the Smackover School District.
  • Approved the Petition for Annexation.
  • Approved the Publication of Notice of Intent to File Application.
  • Authorized the Superintendent of Schools to file petition with the State Board of Education.
  • Hired Candis Langley and Michelle Martisek as school nurses.
  • Accepted the resignation of one employee.

The Smackover School Board of Directors meets in regular session on the third Monday of every month in the board room of the Central Office at 5:30 pm.  The public is invited to attend.



SHS Students Excel in Math Competition

More than 130 regional high school students competed in the Arkansas Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ACTM) Regional Mathematics Contest on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Southern Arkansas University.

Students competed for math awards winners from the various mathematics disciplines, including Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Trigonometry/Pre-calculus, Calculus and Probability and Statistics.

Regional winners were presented with trophies. Students placing first, second or third, along with others from a statewide pool of high scores, will be invited to participate in the state contest. It is scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2014, on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.

Shooting Sports Team Excels in Competition

Congratulations to Smackover Shooting Sports Sr. Squad 1 for placing 2nd out of 28 teams in the Camden Shooting Tournament on March 15.  Team members include: Luke Bussell, Tanner Skidmore, Jared Russell, Drew Crutchfield, and Nick Jennings.
Also, Congratulations to the Smackover Shooting Sports Jr. Squad 1 for placing 2nd out of 20 teams in the tournament. Teams members include: Braden Doherty, Hunter Ramsey, Caleb Reynolds, Trenton Bailey, and Blake Doherty.

Merger Information

On Monday, March 17, a Community Meeting was held as part of the regularly scheduled school board meeting.  The following information was presented to the public.

This form is similar to the form which was presented to the Norphlet community; however, information was added to address questions that were specific to the Smackover community.


Preschool Pictures

W.I. Bell is scheduled to take Spring class pictures and individual pictures on the preschool campus on Thursday, April 3.
