May School Board Meeting

The Smackover School District Board of Directors met in regular session on Monday, May 20, 2013.  Highlights from the meeting included:

  • Recognized the following district retirees with a plaque:  Janet Brooker, Speech Pathology Assistant; Gloria Watson, Superintendent’s Administrative Assistant; Amanda Jones, Teacher; Maidra Trosclair, Teacher; and Don Smelter, Superintendent.
  • Employed First Security Beardsley Public Finance as Financial Advisor for a period of three years .
  • Approved the payment of registration costs for Haley Corley to attend the FCCLA National Conference and Mallory Pyron to attend the FBLA National Conference following a presentation by both students.
  • Accepted the resignation of four employees.
  • Hired Ginie Cameron as Superintendent’s Administrative Assistant.
  • Increased the salaries for the assistant bookkeeper and the speech pathologist.
  • Changed the base salary for licensed personnel from $31,000 to $31,500 and increased the number of steps on the schedule from 17 to 18 steps at the rate of $250 for the eighteenth step, effective for the 2013-2014 school year.

2013 SHS Seniors Awarded Scholarships – Day 9

Over the next week, the Smackover School District would like to honor graduates of the class of 2013 who were awarded scholarships by highlighting scholarship recipients each day.

  • Cherell Williams will attend Pulaski Technical College. She has received a $300 Delta Sigma Theta Book Scholarship and has been awarded the Academic Challenge Scholarship with a 2-year value of $4,000. Total value: $4,300.
  • Ashley Wilson will attend SouthArk Community College. She is the recipient of the $1,000 Union County 4-H Foundation Scholarship.
  • Sarah Wood will attend Louisiana Tech University. She has received an Outstanding Student Scholarship as well as the Bulldog Out-of-State Fee Scholarship with a 4-year value of $52,168.

2013 SHS Seniors Awarded Scholarships – Day 8

Over the next week, the Smackover School District would like to honor graduates of the class of 2013 who were awarded scholarships by highlighting five scholarship recipients a day.

  • Brooklynn Taylor will attend Louisiana Tech University. She has received an Outstanding Student Scholarship as well as the Bulldog Out-of-State Fee Scholarship with a 4-year value of $50,968. She received the $3,000 Great Lakes Chemtura Corporation Scholarship. Total value: $53,968.
  • Brook Temples will attend SouthArk Community College. She has been awarded the Albert W. Loftin Scholarship with a 2-year value of $1,825. She will receive the Academic Challenge with a 2-year value of $4,000. Total value: $5,825.
  • Sara Tinsley will attend South Arkansas Community College. She has been awarded the HOSA Tuition Waiver Scholarship with a 2-year value of $5,280. She will receive the Academic Challenge Scholarship with a 2-year value of $4,000. Total Value: $9,280.
  • Caitlin Warren will attend South Arkansas Community College where she has been awarded the O. B. Clark Memorial Scholarship valued at $1,000. She will receive the Academic Challenge Scholarship with a 2-year value of $4,000. Total value: $5,000.
  • Jessi Watson will attend Southern Arkansas University. She has been awarded an Achievement Award with a 4-year value of $8,000. She will receive the Academic Challenge Scholarship with a 4-year value of $14,000. She is the recipient of the $1,000 SHS Class of ’62 Scholarship, the $250 Heath Trosclair Memorial Scholarship, a $1,000 SHS Education Fund Scholarship and the $250 Alpha Delta Kappa MU Elizabeth Mason Memorial Scholarship. Total value: $25,000.

Over the next week, the Smackover School District would like to honor graduates of the class of 2013 who were awarded scholarships by highlighting five scholarship recipients a day.

  • Shaq Richardson will attend the University of Arkansas. He is the recipient of a $2,000 Buick Achievers award, a $500 Women of Distinction Scholarship, a $600 Shea Lynn Sewell Memorial Scholarship, a $300 Delta Sigma Theta Book Scholarship, and the Academic Challenge Scholarship with a 4-year value of $14,000. Total Value: $17,400.
  • Jase Saulsbury will attend the University of Arkansas at Monticello. He has received a Weevil Excellence Scholarship with a 4-year value of $6,000, a $1,000 SHS Education Fund Scholarship, and the Academic Challenge Scholarship with a 4-year value of $14,000. Total Value: $21,000.
  • Logan Smith will attend Southern Arkansas University. He has been awarded an Achievement Award with a 4-year value of $8,000. He will receive the Academic Challenge Scholarship with a 4-year value of $14,000. Total Value: $22,000.
  • Haley Strickland will attend Southern Arkansas University. She has been awarded a $500 SHS Coca-Cola Scholarship and the Academic Challenge Scholarship with a 4-year value of $14,000. Total value: $14,500.
  • Shawn Strickland will attend SAU Tech Welding Academy. He has received a $500 SHS Coca-Cola scholarship.

Over the next week, the Smackover School District would like to honor graduates of the class of 2013 who were awarded scholarships by highlighting five scholarship recipients a day.

  • Ryan Lawson will attend Southern Arkansas University where he will receive the Academic Challenge Scholarship with a 4-year value of $14,000.
  • Nicole Martin has enlisted with the United States Air Force and will receive the Montgomery GI Bill in the amount of $51,336.
  • Demetris McAdoo will attend Ouachita Baptist University. He will receive the Academic Challenge Scholarship with a 4-year value of $14,000.
  • Thomas Preston will attend Southern Arkansas University. He has been awarded an Achievement Award with a 4-year value of $8,000 as well as a $3,000 SAU Band Performance Scholarship. He will receive the Academic Challenge Scholarship with a 4-year value of $14,000. Total Value: $25,000.
  • Korey Purifoy. He will attend Arkansas Baptist College. He will receive the Academic Challenge Scholarship with a 4-year value of $14,000.

Over the next week, the Smackover School District would like to honor graduates of the class of 2013 who were awarded scholarships by highlighting five scholarship recipients a day.

  • Savannah Horne will attend Hendrix College. She has been awarded the Hendrix Academic Scholarship with a 4-year value of $63,000. She will receive the Academic Challenge Scholarship with a 4-year value of $14,000. Total Value: $77,000.
  • Audrey Kemp will attend Southwestern Assemblies of God University. She has received a $500 SHS Coca-Cola Scholarship.
  • Jesse Kemper will enlist with the United States Army and receive the Montgomery GI Bill in the amount of $56,304.
  • Aaron Landreneau will attend Louisiana Tech University where he has received the Outstanding Student Scholarship as well as the Bulldog Out-of-State Fee scholarship for a 4-year value of $52,168. He has been awarded the $1,000 National FFA Scholarship. Total value: $53,168.
  • Dillon Lang has enlisted with the United States Army and will receive the Montgomery GI Bill in the amount of $56,304.

Over the next week, the Smackover School District would like to honor graduates of the class of 2013 who were awarded scholarships by highlighting five scholarship recipients a day.

  • Mariah Gough will attend Ouachita Baptist University. She has received the Ouachita Collegiate Scholarship with a 4-year value of $16,800 as well as the $1,000 OBU Tiger Cheer Grant. She will receive the Academic Challenge Scholarship with a 4-year value of $14,000. Total value: $30,800.
  • Kaylee Graham will attend Henderson State University. She has received the Red & Gray Success Scholarship with a 4-year value of $8,000. She is the recipient of the $1,000 Union County Farm Bureau Award, a $1,000 SHS Education Fund Scholarship, the $250 SHS FBLA Scholarship, and a $500 Women of Distinction Scholarship. She will receive the Academic Challenge Scholarship with a 4-year value of $14,000. Total value: $24,750.
  • Olivia Harrison will attend South Arkansas Community College. She has been awarded the Freshman Recognition Scholarship with a 2-year value of $2,640, a $500 SHS Coca-Cola Scholarship and she will receive the Academic Challenge Scholarship with a 2-year value of $4,000. Total Value: $7,140.
  • Ashton Herring will attend Southern Arkansas University where she has been awarded the Achievement Award with a 4-year value of $8,000. She will receive the Academic Challenge Scholarship with a 4-year value of $14,000. Total value: $22,000.
  • Alex Holt will attend Henderson State University where he will receive the Academic Challenge Scholarship with a 4-year value of $14,000.
