SHS Seniors Nominated for National Scholarship Program

Hope Barker and Haley Corley, seniors and members of the Smackover High School National Honor Society, have been nominated to compete in the National Honor Society scholarship program for this school year.

This year the program will award more than $200,000 in college scholarships. Special recognition and additional awards will be presented to state and regional winners. One national recipient will receive a $13,000 award.

High school National Honor Society chapters from across the country were eligible to nominate between two and five senior NHS members to compete. Nominees are selected on the basis of their leadership skills, participation in service organizations and clubs; achievements in the arts and sciences; and general academic record.

While at Smackover High School, Hope and Haley have been very active in many clubs and organizations such as NHS, Spanish National Honor Society, French National Honor Society, Student Council, FLBA, Mu Alpha Theta, Literati, FCCLA, and involved in several service projects. Both girls were members of the 3A State Champion golf team. Hope plans to attend college after graduation and Haley plans on attending University of Arkansas to study  biology/chemistry with a focus on Pre-Dentistry.
